2 Updo Hairstyles For Homecoming
Today's hair tutorial video features 2 of our favorite bun hairstyles that we thought would be perfect for Homecoming or Prom. If you are looking for a unique and fairly easy updo, either of these sleek and glamorous buns will do the trick.
We originally posted these hairstyles 5 years ago when my daughter was only 11. She's 16 now and will actually be going to her own High School Homecoming in a few weeks! We are assuming many of you have never seen this video, so we wanted to resurface it again.

This tutorial shows how to create these bun hairstyles using a knotted braiding technique. These 2 styles would not only be great for formal dances, but many other occasions including: Weddings (bridal hairstyle, or flower girl hairstyle) communions, baptisms, recitals, church, Easter, etc.

2 Easy Prom Hairstyles in 3 Minutes!
Today we are sharing 2 half up Prom hairstyles that are so easy you could do them yourself! These styles are both very simple and elegant.
2 Easy Prom Hairstyles, Video Tutorial:
(Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)The 1st hairstyle is a half-up with the sides tied back into a standard knot. We have used a rhinestone clip to secure the knot on one side, adding some bling to the style. You could use a bobby pin to secure your knot if you don't want to use a clip.
The 2nd hairstyle is a half up, half down ponytail which we flipped under with a topsy tail (affiliate.) We then flipped the ends back through to form a voluminous loop. We added a bracelet which we found at a local discount store to spice up the style. You could find one that matches your earrings, necklace, or dress!
Both of these styles were created using 2nd day curls, which we originally did using a NuMe curling wand (affiliate.)
By the way, in case you are wondering which dress she chose in our last video... She chose dress #6 and had a great time at the dance!
Hope you are all excited for #prom season! #promhair #promhairstyle
Ribbon Chain Braid Holiday Hairstyles
Hey guys! Today we are sharing another fun Christmas hairstyle idea. Although, this technique can really be used for any time of the year. Just change up the color of ribbons for your event, school colors, or holiday!
This ribbon chain braid is relatively easy to make and would be a pretty accent for tons of hairstyles. You could add this braid to an updo, a half up hairstyle, a side braid, ponytail, etc. We have shown this ribbon chain braid with a fishtail braid in our video (below) as an example.
Ribbon Chain Braid Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
Some tips and tricks: Try to keep the ribbons flat as you are wrapping them around. If they twist, it won't look as tidy. Also, tying them all the same way will keep things neater. You can mix different widths, colors and textures of ribbon for different patterns. You can make the hair loops larger or smaller depending on the look you are going for. And... pomade, gel, wax, or hairspray will help with flyaways.
We have shown several chain or loop hairstyles in the past, dating back to 2008! If you like this concept, you can browse through more chain braids and hairstyle ideas using chains here.

The first hairstyle in this series is a very simple half up knot that literally takes 1 minute to complete. Great for those mornings when you have no time for hair! We have added an elastic at the base of the knot to ensure that the hairstyle will stay secure throughout the day.
Hairstyle #2 is a pretty braided half up style with elastic accents and feathered strands. So beautiful but surprisingly easy! This style would be great for special occasions and formal events as well as regular school days.
This 3rd hairstyle is another half up style using connected knots to form a diamond shape. I think this one is so fun and unique.

Half Up Hairstyle For Long and Medium Hair - Swirling Braids!
For today's hairstyle tutorial, we have combined a simple knotting technique and some braids to create a gorgeous and unique braided half up hairstyle for long and medium length hair.
We're loving the intricate "criss cross" look of these swirling braids! I could see this working as an everyday hairstyle for school, or for special occasions (Prom, Homecoming, recitals, church, weddings, communions, etc.)

This style is surprisingly easy and fairly quick to make and should hold up decently well, since it is secured with braids on both sides of the delicate knot.
As mentioned in our video tutorial (above) the trick to getting this hairstyle to look nice and to stay in place, is all in how you tie the knot and cross the strands underneath before you start braiding. We also suggest stretching the strands in the knot for a more voluminous and elegant looking style.
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 2 small hair elastics (preferably clear or similar to the hair color you are working with.)
- Temporary clip to hold hair while you are braiding.
- Depending on the texture of hair you are working with, you may want to add hair product before you start braiding to help prevent flyaways.
Arrow Braid Heart Hairstyle For Valentine's Day
Our hair tutorial this week is a pretty half-up heart hairstyle. We have combined an arrowhead/ladder braid with a "heart knot" to create this fun new Valentine's hairstyle for 2018.
Over the years, valentines and heart hairstyles have been some of our favorite styles to create. If you are looking for heart hairstyle ideas, we have more than we can count on our website, some of them dating back to 08'! You can check those out here: Heart Hairstyle Ideas
Arrow Braid Heart Hairstyle Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
You might remember a style we posted several years ago called the "heart knot hairstyle" which has been quite popular on social media. And then last year we added one of our favorite and easiest Valentine's hairstyles, the "hanging heart ponytail" which uses the heart knot technique shown in today's video. We decided to combine the heart knot technique with a ladder braid... which sort of ended up looking like an arrowhead braid or fairy wings braid and we are loving how it turned out!
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 4 small/medium size hair elastics.
- Several clips or hair ties to temporarily hold the hair while you are working.
- Pomade, gel, hair wax or other product to help avoid flyaways.
- Long or medium length hair.
This style would not only be cute for valentine's day, it would also make an adorable flower girl hairstyle for a wedding or other special occasion. Hearts can really be worn year round!
Woven Pie Crust Hair Tutorial, Holiday Hairstyles
A braided and woven half up hairstyle, perfect for the upcoming holidays! We have done similar styles in the past which involve weaving the hair and they usually end up being our favorite hairstyles! These intricate basket weave styles always garner tons of compliments and are actually easier than they look.
This pretty holiday hairstyle doesn't have to be just for Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, etc. but we thought it would be fun to name it something festive since we are in the midst of the holiday season (hence the name our boys came up with) the "woven pie crust hairstyle!"
Woven Pie Crust Hairstyle, Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
This hairstyle is a combination of several techniques: A half knot, feather braids, hair weaving, french braiding, and a pull-through faux waterfall technique.
As mentioned in our hair tutorial, I would recommend adding pomade, gel, or other hair product before starting. You may find it easier to create this hairstyle using wet or damp hair (depending on the texture you are working with.) Also, we mentioned a trick using rubber bands to help hold the style in place (towards the end of the video) for those of you with fine or silky hair.

Squiggle Knot Braid, Beautiful Half Up Hairstyle Tutorial
For today's hairstyle tutorial, we have combined a lace feather braid with a new knotting technique to create a gorgeous and unique braided half up hairstyle for long and medium length hair.
We're loving the intricate look of this squiggle braid! I could see this working as a bridal hairstyle or for many other special occasions (Prom, Homecoming, recitals, communions, etc.) The knotted lace or woven lattice pattern reminds me of something you would see on a medieval princess or at a renaissance fair!

This style is surprisingly easier than it looks and fairly quick to make (after you get the knot tying technique down) and should hold up decently well since it is secured with braids on both the top and bottom of the delicate knots.
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 2 small, clear, hair elastics,
- Pomade, gel, serum, or other hair product to help control flyaways.
Hope you enjoy!
