2 Adorable Hairstyles Using The Bow Tie Braid
For today's hair tutorial we are sharing 2 of our favorite hairstyle ideas using the "bow tie braid."
If you are a long time subscriber, you may remember seeing these styles on our blog in the past! We thought they were too cute not to surface them again.

The bow tie braid is so pretty and unique and could be used to create so many different hairstyles and looks! You could use this basic idea to accent updos, half ups, down hairstyles, ponytails, and more. Depending on how you use this braid, it could work for formal events or every day occasions.... from prom, to work, or school.
Tips and tricks:
- Using the same number of strands on each side of the braid as you gather them into the elastic and take them back out will help to keep things looking symmetrical.
- I would also recommend using hair product on each individual strand to help control flyaways.
- Taking small sections as you create your lace braids on each side of the bows will make things look neater and better.
Braided Edge Banded Fishtail (Part 2)
Today we are showing a variation of a fun new braid that we posted last week. If we have to choose, we actually like this version the most. ;) We love the way the fishtail strands are intricately stacked on this braid. And although this braid looks like it could be difficult, it is actually quite easy to create!

As mentioned in our hair tutorial (above) the only difference between this and last week's braid is the way that the fishtail strands are brought in. Last time we pulled the strands up through the ponytail, which made a reverse fishtail braid. This time the strands were taken down through the ponytail, creating a standard fishtail braid in each section.
Braided Edge Reverse Banded Fishtail Braid
Today we are sharing a fun new braid! The Braided Edge Reverse Banded Fishtail.
We love this braid because it is easy, even for beginning braiders, but looks so unique and intricate. It is also less time consuming than most fishtail braids.

You may remember the "twisted edge fishtail braid" we posted several years ago? This was one of our favorite creations and one of the braids we are most proud of on our blog! This braided edge banded braid is sort of a variation of the twisted edge fishtail.
This braid can be done in a ponytail style (as shown) or as a half up. As mentioned in our video, you could also make this using a regular fishtail technique instead of a reverse fishtail (which we hope to show in an upcoming tutorial.)
We love this braid left together as more of a tight and sleek braid. Or lifted and stretched for a more voluminous look, which accentuates all of the details of this braid.
Bow Tie Braid Ponytail Hair Tutorial
This bow tie braid ponytail is so cute and unique, it's sure to bring you compliments!
You may remember the "bow tie braid hairstyle" we posted last year? This bow tie ponytail is a fun variation of that hairstyle. We are loving this ponytail method as it is easier and quicker than the original (since no french braids or dutch braiding is required.)

The day my daughter wore this hairstyle, she had so many people ask her how to do it. It is definitely an eye catcher! We think the bows running down the ponytail are absolutely adorable. This hairstyle is quickly becoming one of our all time favorites!
This style will work best with long or medium length hair. As mentioned in our video, you can adjust the number of bows you make (as well as the number of strands forming the bows) to the length and thickness of your own hair.
We used clear elastics for the center of our hair bows. Colored elastics could also be used for a fun twist. I think jewels or other hair bling would be so pretty placed in the center of the bows or over the elastics as well. And of course, if you want to hide the hair tie at the top of the ponytail, you could wrap it with hair before you start braiding.
The best trick we can offer for creating this style is the use of hair product. We used pomade on each strand before making the bows to keep the flyaways down and to help keep the overall look smooth and sleek.
This hairstyle would be great for school, church, or special occasions. Hope you enjoyed!

The first hairstyle in this series is a very simple half up knot that literally takes 1 minute to complete. Great for those mornings when you have no time for hair! We have added an elastic at the base of the knot to ensure that the hairstyle will stay secure throughout the day.
Hairstyle #2 is a pretty braided half up style with elastic accents and feathered strands. So beautiful but surprisingly easy! This style would be great for special occasions and formal events as well as regular school days.
This 3rd hairstyle is another half up style using connected knots to form a diamond shape. I think this one is so fun and unique.
Hope you enjoyed these quick and easy hairstyle ideas!
When do you go back to school?
Checkerboard Dutch Braids Hairstyle Tutorial. Easier Than It Looks!
This checkerboard braid is easier than it looks and is so fun to make! Hope you love it.
We have shown several "checkerboard type braids" on this blog that you may have seen in the past...
The 5 strand checkerboard braid with ribbon,
5 strand checkerboard french braid,
and Checkerboard fishtail braid.
As you might have noticed, we love woven hairstyles! For today's style we tried to come up with something that has the woven checkerboard look, but isn't as difficult to create as some of the 5 strand braids or complicated zipper braiding techniques necessary to make most of these checkerboard braids. If you can make a feathered dutch braid and simple 3 strand braids, you should be able to accomplish this one.

Although fairly simple to create, this hairstyle looks so intricate and is sure to bring compliments and attention!
Supplies needed to recreate this braid:
- 2 clear hair elastics.
- Several hair ties and clips to temporarily hold the braids while you are working.
- Gel, pomade or other product to help control flyaways.
Greek Goddess Ladder Braid, Wedding and Prom Hairstyles
Today we are sharing a beautiful "Greek Goddess" inspired hairstyle tutorial featuring braids, twists, and curls, creating a lovely Princess Hairstyle! This would be a pretty hairstyle for weddings, Prom, Homecoming, recitals, school dances, church, communions and other special occasions.
Greek Goddess Ladder Braid, Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
We have combined a lace french braid feathering technique with rope braids (or twist braids) to create the vertical ladder braid on this half up hairstyle. We love how simple and elegant this style turned out.
As mentioned in our video, we used our curling wand to create her loose curls for this hairstyle. Click here for our curling wand tutorial. You could also crimp or wave your hair if you desire to achieve texture and volume. If you want your style to be more voluminous, you could tease her hair before placing the ladder braid. A bubble effect between the braids could be achieved by using a rat tail comb as shown in our video tutorial (above.) Bobby pins placed under the twists would help to hold your bubbled hair in place if you decide to go for that look.
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 1 medium size, clear hair elastic
- Several clips or hair ties to temporarily section and hold the hair while you are working.
- Finishing hairspray
- Curling wand, crimper, waver, etc. (affiliate)
Half Up Hairstyle For Long and Medium Hair - Swirling Braids!
For today's hairstyle tutorial, we have combined a simple knotting technique and some braids to create a gorgeous and unique braided half up hairstyle for long and medium length hair.
We're loving the intricate "criss cross" look of these swirling braids! I could see this working as an everyday hairstyle for school, or for special occasions (Prom, Homecoming, recitals, church, weddings, communions, etc.)

This style is surprisingly easy and fairly quick to make and should hold up decently well, since it is secured with braids on both sides of the delicate knot.
As mentioned in our video tutorial (above) the trick to getting this hairstyle to look nice and to stay in place, is all in how you tie the knot and cross the strands underneath before you start braiding. We also suggest stretching the strands in the knot for a more voluminous and elegant looking style.
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 2 small hair elastics (preferably clear or similar to the hair color you are working with.)
- Temporary clip to hold hair while you are braiding.
- Depending on the texture of hair you are working with, you may want to add hair product before you start braiding to help prevent flyaways.
Arrow Braid Heart Hairstyle For Valentine's Day
Our hair tutorial this week is a pretty half-up heart hairstyle. We have combined an arrowhead/ladder braid with a "heart knot" to create this fun new Valentine's hairstyle for 2018.
Over the years, valentines and heart hairstyles have been some of our favorite styles to create. If you are looking for heart hairstyle ideas, we have more than we can count on our website, some of them dating back to 08'! You can check those out here: Heart Hairstyle Ideas
Arrow Braid Heart Hairstyle Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
You might remember a style we posted several years ago called the "heart knot hairstyle" which has been quite popular on social media. And then last year we added one of our favorite and easiest Valentine's hairstyles, the "hanging heart ponytail" which uses the heart knot technique shown in today's video. We decided to combine the heart knot technique with a ladder braid... which sort of ended up looking like an arrowhead braid or fairy wings braid and we are loving how it turned out!
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 4 small/medium size hair elastics.
- Several clips or hair ties to temporarily hold the hair while you are working.
- Pomade, gel, hair wax or other product to help avoid flyaways.
- Long or medium length hair.
This style would not only be cute for valentine's day, it would also make an adorable flower girl hairstyle for a wedding or other special occasion. Hearts can really be worn year round!
