2 Updo Hairstyles For Homecoming
Today's hair tutorial video features 2 of our favorite bun hairstyles that we thought would be perfect for Homecoming or Prom. If you are looking for a unique and fairly easy updo, either of these sleek and glamorous buns will do the trick.
We originally posted these hairstyles 5 years ago when my daughter was only 11. She's 16 now and will actually be going to her own High School Homecoming in a few weeks! We are assuming many of you have never seen this video, so we wanted to resurface it again.

This tutorial shows how to create these bun hairstyles using a knotted braiding technique. These 2 styles would not only be great for formal dances, but many other occasions including: Weddings (bridal hairstyle, or flower girl hairstyle) communions, baptisms, recitals, church, Easter, etc.

Hey guys! We are always looking for simple and quick hairstyles for school mornings and thought these headband styles from our YouTube channel would be perfect for back to school season. These "5 minute hairstyles" are all super easy but still look fashionable, even though they take very little effort! The headbands add a stylish finishing touch and of course can be changed up and matched to your outfit of the day.

Hair tutorial #1 features a classic twist on each side of her head, finishing in a low fishtail braid.
Hairstyle #2 is a trendy half up hairstyle with extra micro braids wrapping around the headband. We used a silver braided headband and placed it high on her forehead.
Hairstyle #3 is the easiest of all! A fancy side ponytail with a twist wrapping around the back.
Hairstyle #4 features a pretty beaded headband placed between 2 small braids. We created no heat waves by sleeping in braids overnight to complete this look.
All four of these hairstyles can be done with straight hair, wavy hair, or curly hair. Medium length hair or long hair will work best.

Bandables Twisty Braids Headband Review and Tutorial
Today we are testing the "bandables twisty braids headband" by Localoc. We saw this at our local Walmart and thought it looked cute and fun to try.
We are always looking for easy hairstyles for school mornings and thought it would be perfect for those days when you need a 5 minute hairstyle. (Which is pretty much every school morning at our house!)
This would also be a great accessory for 2nd or 3rd day hair, to help disguise when it's looking slightly greasy. For those of you who are growing out your bangs, this would be fabulous as well!
Review and Tutorial Video: (Click here to watch this hairstyle video directly on YouTube.)
We liked that the little hair elastics on this headband held her hair back quite tightly without pulling or clamping her hair. We've tried similar options in the past (with barrettes or clips attached to the headband) and it seems like you need exactly the right amount of hair to make those work. We've had trouble with the hair being too thick to clip the barrettes shut, or the hair being too thin and sliding right out. So, the elastics are a great option that will accommodate all different hair textures and thickness.
There are many different hairstyles that can be created using this headband. We have shown just a few basic ideas in this video:
A half up twist.
A ponytail.
If you play sports, I think this would be a nice option for keeping your hair out of your face. You could add a ponytail, bun, or braid and be ready to go.
I think this would look really cute with curled, wavy, or crimped hair as well as straight. This would also be perfect for short hair, as well as long. So fun!
We unfortunately were not able to find this available to purchase online yet... I think it is too new. Here are some similar headbands on Amazon, but none with the elastics yet:
Headband 1, Headband 2, Headband 3. You might have better luck finding this at your local drugstore or retailer.
3 Back To School Hairstyles 2019
It's back to school season and we are excited to share 3 of our favorite quick and easy DIY hairstyles that would be perfect for busy school mornings!
These are all "no heat" hairstyles and could work for elementary through high school students.
The first hairstyle in our 2019 compilation series is called "gathered braids." This simple hairstyle consists of 3 regular braids banded together to form a cute half up hairstyle. Just a little something extra instead of the same old one braid half up!
Our next hairstyle is called the "palm tree bubble braid." This fun style looks a lot more difficult than it actually is. All that is required are a few mini elastics and the ability to make some regular 3 strand braids! My daughter wears this style quite often as a half up (as shown) and also utilized with a full ponytail.
The 3rd hairstyle in our video tutorial today is the "interlocking floating bubble braid." This technique can be used to create so many amazing hairstyles and just looks so cool. Definitely an attention grabber!
Supplies needed to recreate these easy hairstyles:
- Small hair elastics. (The amount will depend on the hairstyle you are creating as well as the length of hair you are working with.
- Hairspray, gel, wax, or other hair product to help prevent flyaways.
- The ability to make a basic 3 strand braid. (For all 3 styles.)
- Medium length or long hair.
Fishtail Updo Hairstyle For Parties, Prom, Wedding | Fancy Hair Tutorial
Today's hairstyle tutorial is a beautiful updo style created using a simple fishtail braid!
Our step by step video instructions (below) show how to make a simplified french fishtail braid, transitioning into a standard fishtail, then wrapping and tucking the finished braid into a pretty updo hairstyle. This formal hairstyle is quite easy even though it doesn't look like it would be!
Fishtail Updo Hairstyle Video Tutorial:
(Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)This hairstyle would be great for many special occasions: The Prom, Homecoming, weddings (hairstyles for the bride and bridesmaids as well as guests) parties, dinners, church, etc.
As mentioned in our video, the braid can also be left down for another adorable look!
Tips and tricks:
- Use hair product to help prevent flyaways while you are creating the fishtail and for the finishing touches.
- Stretch the edges of your braid for a more voluminous final look.
- Miniature bobby pins (affiliate) are easier to hide in styles like this.
- You may want to loosen the hair at the crown of her head before you wrap up the braid for a softer and more effortless look.

Baby Birds Hatching To Leaving The Nest In 5 Minutes!
Hey guys! We normally don't post anything other than hairstyles on this blog, but once in awhile we see something so cool, we just have to share! Hope you don't mind something different today.
This Spring we had a Robin build a nest and lay eggs in our backyard. We were able to document the process of them growing up and leaving the nest! We were shocked at how fast they went from 3 little blue eggs, to skinny bald pink creatures, to cute little chubby birds with feathers.
Watch from the tiny eggs hatching, to grown up birds in a 5 minute time lapse video! (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
The entire process took about 1 month. Around 2 weeks for the eggs to hatch, and another 2 weeks for the babies to grow and leave the nest. Crazy! We were so impressed with the mother bird and her dedication to her nest. We had the worst weather ever with wind, rain, hail, sleet, freezing temperatures, and snow! She kept the eggs and babies warm, fed, and safe. Miraculously all 3 baby birds survived. Hope you enjoyed our "nature video." :) See you again soon with more hair related content!
2 Adorable Hairstyles Using The Bow Tie Braid
For today's hair tutorial we are sharing 2 of our favorite hairstyle ideas using the "bow tie braid."
If you are a long time subscriber, you may remember seeing these styles on our blog in the past! We thought they were too cute not to surface them again.
2 Bow Tie Braid Hairstyles, Video Tutorials: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
The bow tie braid is so pretty and unique and could be used to create so many different hairstyles and looks! You could use this basic idea to accent updos, half ups, down hairstyles, ponytails, and more. Depending on how you use this braid, it could work for formal events or every day occasions.... from prom, to work, or school.
Tips and tricks:
- Using the same number of strands on each side of the braid as you gather them into the elastic and take them back out will help to keep things looking symmetrical.
- I would also recommend using hair product on each individual strand to help control flyaways.
- Taking small sections as you create your lace braids on each side of the bows will make things look neater and better.
Spiral Twist Fishtail Braid Hair Tutorial
Our hair tutorial today shows how to create a pretty "spiral twist fishtail braid" ponytail hairstyle.
This braid is very simple to create, but will leave people wondering how you did it! We love that this braid gives sort of a 3D illusion. It is hard to tell where the braid starts and where it ends... with a fishtail running along the top, as well as twisting along each side of the braid, and crossing over the front. So fun!Spiral Twist Fishtail Braid Video Tutorial (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
As shown in our video above, strategic stretching along the edges of the braid really makes this style pop. Also, it is optional but placing a few bobby pins to hold the braids together as we did will help create the illusion of it being one braid instead of 2.
This ponytail style will work best with long and medium length hair. Big, loose, messy, and disheveled braids are trending right now. So feel free to stretch, fluff, loosen and twist to your hearts content!
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 1 medium size hair tie for the top of the ponytail
- 2 temporary hair ties or clips for the ends of the braids
- 1 medium size hair elastic for the end of the braid
- Several bobby pins (optional)
- Hair product to help prevent flyaways

Prom Hair Tutorial, Dress and Shoes!
GRWM Prom! Come join us as she gets ready for her first Prom.
Hey guys! A few weeks ago my daughter went to the Prom at her High School. We filmed as she got her Prom hairstyle done, showing step by step how to recreate it in a tutorial for you. She chose to wear a pretty updo with braids and twists and a sparkly headband as an accessory.
Easy Prom Hairstyle Tutorial:
(Click here to watch the tutorial directly on YouTube.)
This updo is great for long hair, but would also work for shorter hair. The buns could be easily adjusted for the length of hair you are working with. We love this updo because it looks fancy and gorgeous but is fairly quick and easy, and requires no heat or pre curling of her hair (except for the optional pieces we left out framing her face.)
She went with a natural makeup look (which her aunt helped her with) a statement necklace, and minimal earrings. As you can see in our video, her dress was a modest vintage style and very princess like! We made a video a few weeks ago showing how to lace up this dress, which is a lovely corset back.
The dress was long enough that no one could see her shoes anyway, so she decided to go with the trend of Converse comfort! Best decision ever for the dance and for fun.
Hope you enjoyed a peek at her first Jr Prom!
How To Wrap Hair Around A Ponytail
Hair Wrapped Ponytail - Fool Proof Method
A useful hair hack! Today's hair tutorial shows how to hide your hair tie by wrapping hair around it, the easy way. This classic hair trick uses no bobby pins, extra elastics, or special hair tools (such as a topsy tail, clips, bungees, etc.) We call this the "fool proof" or no fail method because it works for us every time and is super easy and quick. How To Hide A Hair Tie By Wrapping Hair Around It - Video Tutorial
(Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)Tips and tricks for getting the perfect hair wrapped ponytail:
1. The strand of hair you are using to wrap around the top needs to be not too thick and not too thin. If you are having trouble, you might need to add some hair to your strand, or take some out.
2. When initially making the ponytail, make sure your hair tie is tight enough to hold the ponytail in place, but not too tight so that you can't get your fingers through or pull the hair through it.
3. Use our video as a guide showing the points of reference and the direction the hair should be going. IE grabbing the strand from underneath the ponytail, wrapping the hair completely one time, pulling the hair back over in the opposite direction, etc. These steps are very simple, but if you don't follow them exactly, it may not work.
4. If you want the wrapped hair to stay sleek and clean looking, use hair product before you start to help control flyaways.
This simple ponytail look can be used for almost any occasion, from the most casual (school days, the beach, working out, shopping, etc) to the most formal or fancy. We've even seen girls wear a sleek hair wrapped ponytail to the Prom or for their wedding! This is probably the most timeless, popular, universal, and loved hairstyle of all time.
How To Lace A Corset Back Dress For Prom Or Wedding
Today we are showing how to tie or lace up a corset gown. Who knew it could be so complicated? ;) The technique shown in our video (below) will keep all of the ribbons coming in the same way for a neater look (instead of criss crossing every which way.) We also show how to tighten up the corset, starting at the top of the dress and working your way down.
How To Lace A Corset Dress Video Tutorial (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
Depending on the thickness and texture of your ribbon, along with the size of the dress (and person wearing it) the corset will look a little different each time. The great thing about this type of dress is that it can fit a range of sizes. Also, you can tighten or loosen the corset where you need to for a custom fit for your body. I would recommend tightening enough that the dress feels snug, but not so tight that you are unable to breathe or move comfortably. You want to be able to sit and dance in the dress!
She'll be going to her first Prom in a couple weeks! She's 16 and a Sophomore this year. We're not sure how much time she will have to get ready between her day date and the actual prom. But, if she has time, we will film her prom look on the day she goes to the dance, showing her dress, shoes, jewelry, and hair for an upcoming video!
Let us know in the comments: Have you been to a Prom? What did your dress look like?
2 Easy Prom Hairstyles in 3 Minutes!
Today we are sharing 2 half up Prom hairstyles that are so easy you could do them yourself! These styles are both very simple and elegant.
2 Easy Prom Hairstyles, Video Tutorial:
(Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)The 1st hairstyle is a half-up with the sides tied back into a standard knot. We have used a rhinestone clip to secure the knot on one side, adding some bling to the style. You could use a bobby pin to secure your knot if you don't want to use a clip.
The 2nd hairstyle is a half up, half down ponytail which we flipped under with a topsy tail (affiliate.) We then flipped the ends back through to form a voluminous loop. We added a bracelet which we found at a local discount store to spice up the style. You could find one that matches your earrings, necklace, or dress!
Both of these styles were created using 2nd day curls, which we originally did using a NuMe curling wand (affiliate.)
By the way, in case you are wondering which dress she chose in our last video... She chose dress #6 and had a great time at the dance!
Hope you are all excited for #prom season! #promhair #promhairstyle

How To Make A Fishtail Chain Braid Ponytail Hairstyle
Today's hair tutorial is a beautiful and easy braided ponytail hairstyle that we have been seeing all over Instagram recently. We fell in love with it when we first saw it and have had a few requests for a tutorial, so we knew we wanted to do a video on this style!
This ponytail is so pretty and unique looking and the best part is that it is much easier to make than it looks. If you want to cut down on some time, you could use regular 3 strand braids or twist braids instead of fishtail braids (as they are so gorgeous, but a little more time consuming.)
Fishtail Chain Braid Ponytail Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
This ponytail style would be great for casual occasions as well as formal events. For a more polished look, hair could be wrapped around the top of the ponytail before you start braiding.
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 1 medium size hair tie for the top of the ponytail.
- Several medium/small hair elastics. The amount will depend on the length of hair you are working with and how many loops or links you will be making in the chain braid.
- Hair spray, wax, gel, or other product to help with flyaways.
Some amazing Instagram accounts we remember seeing this hairstyle on and were inspired by: _ardo_ardo_, tojashair, goudhaartje.nl, ymbook, ryt_rs, my_babygirlshair, hair_glamour1, mita_p_akbari, braidymom, trencitajohnson
How To Heart Hairstyle, Double Linked Heart Ponytail
We wanted to share one more cute, last minute, heart hairstyle today before Valentine's Day is over! Have you decided how you are going to wear your hair for Valentine's this year?
In this tutorial, we are using a technique we saw on "Cute Girls Hairstyles" a few years ago to make these hearts. We love this double linked heart ponytail because it is adorable and fairly quick and easy to create.
Double Linked Heart Ponytail Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
In our video we show 2 ways this heart ponytail can be worn. If you have long hair, you could actually add another set of hearts beneath the braids for a 3rd variation.
To complete this heart ponytail, you will need a medium size hair tie and several small hair elastics. That's it!
We have been "hair blogging" for 11 years now! And during each January/February of those 11 years, we have posted several heart shaped or heart themed hairstyles.... which adds up to a lot of hearts. I actually counted over 40 heart hairstyles on our site so far! So, if you are looking for more heart hair ideas, click on our Valentine's hairstyles to see more. (Some of them are from before we started doing YouTube and are picture tutorials only.)
Obviously this hairstyle would be cute for Valentine's Day, but could also be worn for other occasions. I'm thinking this would be adorable for a flower girl at a wedding or just a regular school day.
