Quick, Easy & Cute Heart Ponytail

Here's a fun Valentine hairstyle that is quick and easy. This one took us 8 minutes and that's including the time it took to curl the pony!

We had a lot of requests for a video back when we first posted this one several years ago (I must have done a really bad job at explaining it lol) so here you are:

And, in case you prefer to follow along by photo: Here's the good old picture tutorial. :)

Start by parting out a box in front and do a pull-through. (With or without a topsy tail.)Leaving the end of the pull through out, (you'll need it later to secure the heart.) Make a low pony and do 2 braids with the top half of the hair in the pony.Bring the braids up and position them into the shape of a heart. When you get them the right length on both sides, secure them together with an elastic. You don't want the braids too long or they'll flop around and won't stay put. Also, you need some ends left to add back into the ponytail. At this point, you'll bring the ends from the pony on top down and add them in with the ends of the braids. So, you'll have another elastic over the same place you just put one to tie the 2 braids together, (to secure the heart into place.)braided heartNow, add one more elastic at the base of the pony to keep everything together. If you don't make the braids too long, you won't even need anything to help it keep it's shape. I didn't add any bobby pins or anything and it stayed just like this all day!valentines day hairstyleAdd a bow if you want. I just used some spare ribbon I had hanging around the house and tied a bow with each piece.heart hairstyletopsy tail hairstyleponytail

This is sooo cute! I got kinda lost in this part of the explanation though: Now, add one more elastic at the base of the pony to keep everything together. If you don't make the braids too long, you won't even need anything to help it keep it's shape. I didn't add any bobby pins or anything and it stayed just like this all day! I got a bit confused, but I will play with it tonight and see if I can figure it out! Thanks for posting!

Becki, you'll have to let me know if you get it figured out. Sorry about the weird explanation, LOL. I have the worst time trying to explain these styles in words without being able to just show it sometimes!!

Thanks for all the sweet comments! I love reading them all.

WOW!!! I love this one! I am a bit afraid of the other heart styles... I think they're still beyond my abilities. But this one definitely seems doable and I can't wait to give it a try!

As always, THANK YOU!

I really love this hairdo. When I tried doing it for my daughter this morning, it didn't turn out nearly as cute. I just couldn't manage to form a heart. I don't know if it's because my little girl's hair isn't as long as it should be in order for this to work or what. A video tutorial for this hairstyle would be VERY helpful for me! :)

There seems to be quite a few people having problems with this hairstyle so I'll try and get a video posted. It most likely won't be for a few days though. It's hard to find a time with my hubby home to help me record :)

This is super cute and I am so glad my friend brought me to your blog! I tried it tonight with regular nylon(i guess) ponies and they didnt hold..so I went and got the small rubber ones and viola!! TOO CUTE! My daughter loves it! And her hair is only shoulder length maybe a bit shorter but it definatly worked! I did take a few pics of hers if you'd like to use them. here is my email if you want. lilyputt01@att.net
Thanks again for posting all these awesome hairstyles!

I like this one! I understood the directions well enough - I attempted it on my own hair today to be a little festive since it was the last day I had classes for the week. I got so many compliments! I even had a friend who was sitting in the back of my law class text me during the middle of our lecture to ask how I'd managed something so unique. It's fun to know that "big kids" can get away with fun hairdos too!

I can't wait to try this. I just found this blog and am very excited! I was getting so bored of doing the same 4 hairstyles on my daughter!

I love this hair style when I did it on my daughter I couldn't get the heart shape either, do to the fact that she had to go to school I just used two Bobby pins to hold it in place, that fixed it right away. She just got home from school and it held all day! Thank you so much for the great posts!
