Bandables Twisty Braids Headband Review and Tutorial
Today we are testing the "bandables twisty braids headband" by Localoc. We saw this at our local Walmart and thought it looked cute and fun to try.
We are always looking for easy hairstyles for school mornings and thought it would be perfect for those days when you need a 5 minute hairstyle. (Which is pretty much every school morning at our house!)
This would also be a great accessory for 2nd or 3rd day hair, to help disguise when it's looking slightly greasy. For those of you who are growing out your bangs, this would be fabulous as well!
Review and Tutorial Video: (Click here to watch this hairstyle video directly on YouTube.)
We liked that the little hair elastics on this headband held her hair back quite tightly without pulling or clamping her hair. We've tried similar options in the past (with barrettes or clips attached to the headband) and it seems like you need exactly the right amount of hair to make those work. We've had trouble with the hair being too thick to clip the barrettes shut, or the hair being too thin and sliding right out. So, the elastics are a great option that will accommodate all different hair textures and thickness.
There are many different hairstyles that can be created using this headband. We have shown just a few basic ideas in this video:
A half up twist.
A ponytail.
If you play sports, I think this would be a nice option for keeping your hair out of your face. You could add a ponytail, bun, or braid and be ready to go.
I think this would look really cute with curled, wavy, or crimped hair as well as straight. This would also be perfect for short hair, as well as long. So fun!
We unfortunately were not able to find this available to purchase online yet... I think it is too new. Here are some similar headbands on Amazon, but none with the elastics yet:
Headband 1, Headband 2, Headband 3. You might have better luck finding this at your local drugstore or retailer.
Spiral Twist Fishtail Braid Hair Tutorial
Our hair tutorial today shows how to create a pretty "spiral twist fishtail braid" ponytail hairstyle.
This braid is very simple to create, but will leave people wondering how you did it! We love that this braid gives sort of a 3D illusion. It is hard to tell where the braid starts and where it ends... with a fishtail running along the top, as well as twisting along each side of the braid, and crossing over the front. So fun!Spiral Twist Fishtail Braid Video Tutorial (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
As shown in our video above, strategic stretching along the edges of the braid really makes this style pop. Also, it is optional but placing a few bobby pins to hold the braids together as we did will help create the illusion of it being one braid instead of 2.
This ponytail style will work best with long and medium length hair. Big, loose, messy, and disheveled braids are trending right now. So feel free to stretch, fluff, loosen and twist to your hearts content!
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- 1 medium size hair tie for the top of the ponytail
- 2 temporary hair ties or clips for the ends of the braids
- 1 medium size hair elastic for the end of the braid
- Several bobby pins (optional)
- Hair product to help prevent flyaways

Prom Hair Tutorial, Dress and Shoes!
GRWM Prom! Come join us as she gets ready for her first Prom.
Hey guys! A few weeks ago my daughter went to the Prom at her High School. We filmed as she got her Prom hairstyle done, showing step by step how to recreate it in a tutorial for you. She chose to wear a pretty updo with braids and twists and a sparkly headband as an accessory.
Easy Prom Hairstyle Tutorial:
(Click here to watch the tutorial directly on YouTube.)
This updo is great for long hair, but would also work for shorter hair. The buns could be easily adjusted for the length of hair you are working with. We love this updo because it looks fancy and gorgeous but is fairly quick and easy, and requires no heat or pre curling of her hair (except for the optional pieces we left out framing her face.)
She went with a natural makeup look (which her aunt helped her with) a statement necklace, and minimal earrings. As you can see in our video, her dress was a modest vintage style and very princess like! We made a video a few weeks ago showing how to lace up this dress, which is a lovely corset back.
The dress was long enough that no one could see her shoes anyway, so she decided to go with the trend of Converse comfort! Best decision ever for the dance and for fun.
Hope you enjoyed a peek at her first Jr Prom!
Side Swept Formal Hairstyle For Prom
Today's hair tutorial video features a gorgeous side swept Prom hairstyle! This style is easy enough to do on yourself at home (no braiding required) and fancy enough to wear to a formal dance. This upstyle would be perfect for Prom, Homecoming, Weddings (brides and bridesmaids) Communions, Quinceañera, Sweet 16 parties, dates, and other special occasions. A true Princess Hairstyle!

My daughter just turned 16 and will be going to her first semi formal High School dance in a few weeks. We have been experimenting with several styles and she is trying to decide which one to wear. So many options! We love this one because it looks pretty from the front and the back. It would be great for pictures! We also love that this style is heatless, quick and easy, but looks like you spent a lot of time and effort on it. Since everything is held together with elastics, I would imagine that this style would hold up to dancing and not fall apart easily as well!
The trick to making this hairstyle soft, pretty, and slightly messy looking (in a good way) is by gently pulling the twists apart for extra volume and fluff (as shown in our video.) Your partings and placements of the elastics don't need to be perfect either. Any imperfections just add to the charm of the style! Leaving a few wispy strands of hair out around her face will also help soften the style.
We purchased the jeweled rhinestone flower hair clips shown at the end of our tutorial at our local Ross. Hair decorations or accessories can really make a formal hairstyle go from ordinary to extraordinary... and can help cover up any "mess ups" in the style as an added bonus. ;)

- Optional hair accessories (clips, pins, jewels, etc.)
- Finishing hair spray.
New Super Easy Way To Make Space Buns - No Bobby Pins!
Today we are sharing a fun and easy new tutorial for making space buns. We love that this method requires no bobby pins!
This hairstyle is great for all ages and could be used for many occasions. We love that these double buns are popular and stylish for teens right now. So fun! And if you aren't super excited about the pigtail look, you could still use this method to create one bun in a half up style for a toned down variation.
Easy Space Buns Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
You may have noticed in our video (above) we used a "topsy tail" to create this style. This isn't absolutely necessary, but makes it much easier to pull the loops through the elastic. These tools can be found on Amazon (affiliate.)
This hairstyle will work for medium length, long hair, and even fairly short hair. If your hair is on the shorter side, we would recommend taking more sections, and only looping them one time each through the elastic.
With Halloween right around the corner, we were thinking these buns could even be used for several different Halloween costumes: Bears, mice, Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse, dogs, (basically any animals with ears!) You could also use them for rocker chick costumes, barbie, monster high, cheerleaders, fairies, etc, etc.
As mentioned in our tutorial, you can choose to make more of a loose, messy bun type of look, or keep the buns neater for a tight, sleek, coiled bun. It is up to you!
3 Back To School Hairstyles!
Since many of you will be going back to school soon, we wanted to share some quick and easy hairstyles for busy school mornings. Each of these are simple and heatless "half up half down" hairstyles that would be great for girls and teens of all ages (elementary, middle school, junior high, high school, and college!)
3 Back To School Hairstyles, Video Tutorials: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
The first hairstyle in this series is our favorite... a fun double twist technique with connecting braids which is much easier than it looks.
The second hairstyle is a cute and simple french braid in the center with accent braids on each side and hair wrapped around the ponytail to finish it off.
The 3rd hairstyle continues on from the second by adding some lace braids on each side, connecting in the middle.
Hope you enjoyed! We will be posting more back to school videos soon!
Prom & Wedding Hairstyle! Romantic Updo With Twists & Braids
In today's hair tutorial we show an easy, elegant, and pretty updo for special occasions. This romantic hairstyle with twists and braids is glamorous, sophisticated, and fancy. Similar to something you might see on the red carpet, but can be created quite easily in your own home! This gorgeous style would be great for many occasions such as Prom, Homecoming, Weddings (bridal, bridesmaids, and flower girls) recitals, communions, holidays, date night, Instagram photos, etc.

In our step by step video tutorial (above) we use a topsy tail to create the first twisted section. These tools can be found online (affiliate.) This tool is optional, if you do not have a topsy tail, the twists can be made by pulling the hair through with just your fingers. As mentioned in our video, there really is no exact science for creating this hairstyle. After making the basic twists and braids, you can use your own creativity to loosen, pull, and pin up the final look and much of this will depend on the length and texture of the hair you are working with.
This up-style will work best on long hair and medium hair. Curly, wavy, or straight.
Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
- Several small/medium clear hair elastics. (We used 5.)
- Bobby pins. Our favorite brand and best we have found for holding the hair in place is Sally Beauty Supply min pins (affiliate.)
- Topsy Tail (affiliate) (optional.)
- Finishing hairspray.
- Flat iron, curling wand, or curling iron for face framing curls.
