How To Lace A Corset Back Dress For Prom Or Wedding

How to lace a corset back dress, video tutorial.

Today we are showing how to tie or lace up a corset gown.  Who knew it could be so complicated?  ;)  The technique shown in our video (below) will keep all of the ribbons coming in the same way for a neater look (instead of criss crossing every which way.)  We also show how to tighten up the corset, starting at the top of the dress and working your way down.

How To Lace A Corset Dress Video Tutorial (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)

Depending on the thickness and texture of your ribbon, along with the size of the dress (and person wearing it) the corset will look a little different each time.  The great thing about this type of dress is that it can fit a range of sizes. Also, you can tighten or loosen the corset where you need to for a custom fit for your body.  I would recommend tightening enough that the dress feels snug, but not so tight that you are unable to breathe or move comfortably. You want to be able to sit and dance in the dress!

She'll be going to her first Prom in a couple weeks!  She's 16 and a Sophomore this year.  We're not sure how much time she will have to get ready between her day date and the actual prom.  But, if she has time, we will film her prom look on the day she goes to the dance, showing her dress, shoes, jewelry, and hair for an upcoming video!

Let us know in the comments:  Have you been to a Prom?  What did your dress look like?

Greek Goddess Ladder Braid, Wedding and Prom Hairstyles

Greek goddess ladder braid hair tutorial. Wedding and Prom hairstyles.

Today we are sharing a beautiful "Greek Goddess" inspired hairstyle tutorial featuring braids, twists, and curls, creating a lovely Princess Hairstyle!  This would be a pretty hairstyle for weddings, Prom, Homecoming, recitals, school dances, church, communions and other special occasions.

Greek Goddess Ladder Braid, Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)

We have combined a lace french braid feathering technique with rope braids (or twist braids) to create the vertical ladder braid on this half up hairstyle. We love how simple and elegant this style turned out.

As mentioned in our video, we used our curling wand to create her loose curls for this hairstyle. Click here for our curling wand tutorial.  You could also crimp or wave your hair if you desire to achieve texture and volume. If you want your style to be more voluminous, you could tease her hair before placing the ladder braid.  A bubble effect between the braids could be achieved by using a rat tail comb as shown in our video tutorial (above.) Bobby pins placed under the twists would help to hold your bubbled hair in place if you decide to go for that look.

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
  • 1 medium size, clear hair elastic
  • Several clips or hair ties to temporarily section and hold the hair while you are working.
  • Finishing hairspray
  • Curling wand, crimper, waver, etc. (affiliate)

Rainbow Sunrise Braid Hair Tutorial For St. Patrick's Day

Rainbow sunrise braid tutorial, would be cute for St. Patrick's Day

Hey guys! Today we are sharing a fun and colorful way to accent the top of your braids.

This rainbow ribbon design would be a great hairstyle for St. Patrick's Day or year round.  Of course, you can use any colors or type of ribbons you would like to create your own "sunrise" design.  You could use red and green ribbons at Christmas time. Pastel colors for Easter. Red, white, and blue for the 4th of July in the U.S. (or your own countries colors if you are outside of the U.S.)  You could even incorporate your school or team colors for sporting events, cheer leading, gymnastics, dance, etc.

We love that this is an easy hairstyle, but still unique and eye catching.  The day my daughter wore this braid, she had several people ask if the design was a barrette or hair clip, then when they realized the ribbons were woven (or sewn) into her hair, they wanted to know how!

Rainbow Sunrise Braid, Video Tutorial: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)

We chose to finish this style with a french braid. This would also work with a dutch braid, fishtail braid, twist braid, pull-through braid, 4 strand, etc.

Hairstyle for St. Patrick's Day, rainbow sunrise braid

Cute braided hairstyle, rainbow ribbon braid

This hairstyle will work best with long hair or medium length hair, straight, wavy, or curly.

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
  • Ribbon (you can use any colors you would like.) The ribbons we used were 1/4 inch wide, and about 1 ft long.
  • 2 clear hair elastics
  • You will need some type of needle to sew in the ribbons.  I recommend using a blunt or plastic needle to avoid poking your head! Plastic needles can be found in the craft department of most stores or online (affiliate.)
  • Finishing hairspray or gel

Criss Cross Woven Ponytail Hairstyle

Quick and easy ponytail hairstyle. Criss cross woven twists.
We're loving this cute and easy ponytail hairstyle! No braiding skills required, just grab some hair elastics and you are good to go!

This criss cross woven ponytail hairstyle is inspired by a photo we saw on Instagram by "vlechtjesezo." The original style featured single banded crosses down the length of the ponytail.  We thought it was such a super cute and creative style! We decided to try our own take on it by adding 2 strand crosses, with woven twists.  We love how intricate looking the pattern turned out, although it was still fairly quick, easy, and fun to create.

This hairstyle would be great for many occasions: school, work, the beach, recitals, communions, dances, sports, church, etc.

Criss cross woven ponytail hairstyle, video instructions.

You can add as many woven sections as you would like to your ponytail (depending on the length of hair you are working with.) I think just one section would be cute as an accent at the top of your ponytail, or you can go to the very ends of her hair.  As you can see, we went down about 3/4 the length of her ponytail with our twists.

Hair tutorial, criss cross woven ponytail hairstyle for school.

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
  • 1 medium size hair tie for the top of the ponytail.
  • Several small hair elastics (the amount will depend on how many sections you decide to twist and weave.)
  • Gel, pomade, hair spray, or other product to help control flyaways.

This style will work best with long hair, medium hair, straight hair, wavy hair, or curly hair.

Spider Web Bun Hairstyle Tutorial

Halloween Hair, spiderweb bun tutorial. #halloween #spiderweb

This week we are showing another fun Halloween Hairstyle and this one might be our favorite so far!  We are loving this spider web bun / ponytail since it looks festive for Halloween, but isn't too over the top or crazy for teens, or even adults.  This spooky Halloween spiderweb hairstyle could be worn to school, for a Halloween party, a Halloween dance, a trip to the pumpkin patch, Oktoberfest, or as part of a costume for trick or treating.

Spider web hairstyle for #Halloween. #Halloweenhair

Halloween hairstyle. Spider web bun ponytail. Video tutorial.

Supplies needed to recreate this spider web hairstyle:
  • We purchased the silver ribbon used to make our webbing at a local craft store.  You can use any color or type that you want. We have found that thinner ribbon works best for this style.  You could also use yarn or string if you prefer (which may lay flatter and be easier to sew in.)
  • The donut bun maker we used can be found in most stores that carry beauty supplies.  You can also find them online (affiliate.)
  • We purchased the plastic craft needle (shown in our tutorial above) at Walmart.  You could also use a regular sewing needle.
  • You will need 3 medium size hair elastics or hair ties to make the bun and several clips or temporary hair ties to hold your braids while you are working.
  • Of course if you wanted to take this style a step further, you could add a spider accessory to your web!  We have seen some plastic spider rings at the dollar store that would be perfect.  ;)

Christmas Tree Hairstyle

Christmas tree hair tutorial

Hi, I am "Hair By Lori." Thank you so much to Princess Hairstyles for having me as a guest on her blog!

I am so excited to share my Ribbon Christmas Tree Braid with you today.  When I first started trying different Christmas hairstyles, I was excited because I could do anything.  Christmas is a time when “tacky” magically becomes “cool”!
However, I was even more excited when I realized that a tree braided into the hair didn’t just have to be tacky – it could be pretty too.   I think that this style is one that can be dressed up with curls and while it still might be tacky any other time of the year, at Christmas it is magical and beautiful.

Adorable Christmas hairstyle. Ribbon Christmas tree tutorial.

This Ribbon Christmas Tree Braid is a style that will get you so much attention.  It’s perfect for all of your Christmas events – from an ugly sweater party, to a school holiday party to a family event – this will be the style that everyone is talking about!

To make this hairstyle even easier for you to recreate – my Hair by Lori EZDO Christmas Tree Braid Kit is now available on Amazon.com (affiliate.) The kit comes with everything you need to recreate this festive hairstyle at home:  step by step instructions, ribbon, elastics, star for the top of the tree and your choice of decoration.  You can choose from Garland, Ornaments and LED Lights.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018FDDYBA/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B018FDDYBA&linkCode=as2&tag=princehairst-20&linkId=D6QR24JMWQUWTIXK

The Ornaments are one of my favorites because they are so beautiful and give the style a more dressed up look.  I also LOVE the LED Lights that you get in my kit.  They do not get hot so they are safe to wear in the hair.  The battery pack is lightweight and small, so it’s easy to wear and easy to hide in the style.  The length of the light string is perfect for the style.  You’ll certainly stand out with whatever option you choose.

The only warning I’ll leave you with is be prepared for lots of attention!  We have worn it out to the store and running errands and everyone stops my girls to look at their hair.  We’ve even had a few people ask if they could take photos!  Though the way that it makes my girls smile proudly, it’s worth the extra time to indulge the onlookers.  ;-)

DNA Braid Hairstyle Tutorial

DNA Braid Video Tutorial

A unique and fun braided hairstyle.

We haven't had a lot of time to create anything new and different for awhile, so we are excited about this hairstyle! After filming this tutorial, we were still undecided as to what to call this braid.  The Princess's brother told us it looked like a strand of DNA... a double helix to be exact. ;) So, we settled on the name "DNA Braid." Yay for science class!

This unique braid is a combination of lace Dutch braids (or inside out French braids,) feather braids, and a rope braid. If you are familiar with these 3  techniques, this style should be easy for you to learn.

DNA braid ponytail hairstyle tutorial

In our video below, we created the braid using water to create a slick and sleek finish. The Princess was competing in a sporting event the day we filmed this hairstyle, and we didn't want it coming undone.  If you prefer more of a messy or relaxed looking braid, feel free to braid with dry hair instead.  You could also stretch out the edges of the Dutch braids along each side to create a softer look if you prefer things more tousled looking.  And, for a more edgy or "grown up" finish in the front, you could create a hair poof (or pompadour) in the bangs area if you desire.

Braiding tutorial, DNA Braid

This is a great hairstyle for sports: gymnastics, soccer, swimming, cheerleading, dance, etc.  Also a fun and cute hairstyle for school, work, or other occasion.

This braid can actually be used to create many different hairstyles.  We recently did this diagonally across the back of her head and it turned out super cute. As usual, we love to see your recreations and variations on Instagram and Facebook! You can tag us @hair4myprincess and use the hashtag #hair4myprincess so that we can find it.

Supplies needed to recreate this braid:
  • 2 medium size elastics
  • 2-3 temporary hair ties or clips
  • Water, gel, or pomade (optional)

As mentioned in our video above, the first half of this braid may not look so great.  Do not get discouraged... everything should fix itself and turn out lovely as you complete the second half!

Football Hairstyle

A Hairstyle For Sports Fans!

Football Bun Hairstyle

Admittingly, I don't really follow Football that closely, but when Super Bowl season comes around, I can't help but get a little excited over all the hype.  And, even if you don't necessarily like football.... how could you not like football hair!?  :)

One day last week "the princess" was wearing the Braided Bubble Bun & for some reason, it totally reminded me of a football!  Weird I know, but after that, I decided we had to give it a go.  The Princess ended up loving the style!  She wore it last night for the Seahawks vs 49ers, and is planning on wearing it on Super Bowl Sunday as well.

To create this football bun, I made a "braided bubble bun" (video tutorial below.)  But instead of placing the extra hair (from the hair donut) on the right and left of the bun.... I placed it on the top and bottom of the bun and French Braided the hair horizontally (instead of vertically.)  After the braiding was complete, I just took some ribbon and sewed in some laces over and around the braid.  Super easy!

Braided Bubble Bun Video Tutorial: (Turn it into a football hairstyle by using the modifications above.)

I'm thinking this fun hairstyle would be super cute for crazy hair day or Halloween as well as cheerleading, or watching football!

Criss Cross French Braids Hairstyle

How To Make French Braid Pigtails, With Twist Accents

Criss Cross French Braids Hair Style Tutorial

FYI, we actually filmed this cute braided hairstyle over the summer (notice her fun sun dress/swimsuit cover up.)  We were headed to the lake the day we did this one.  Sadly we won't we seeing much warm weather (or the lake) for awhile around here. Fall/Winter is now upon us!

But, whatever the season, these criss cross rope braid accents are a fun way to spice up some plain old classic French braid pigtails.

French Braids With Twist Braid Accents Tutorial

As long as you know how to French braid, this style is not difficult and actually does not take up much more time than standard French braid pigtails.  It really is a quick and easy hairstyle. We choose rope braids (or twist braids) for our braided accents.  Of course, you can do any type of braid you want.  This style can also be done with Dutch braid pigtails (instead of French braids if you prefer.)  As shown in our video tutorial below, there are also several different designs you can make with the accent braids (depending on the length of hair you are working with.)
