Pretzel Knot Headband Hairstyle

 Knotted Hair Headband
A style idea using pretzel knots.

pretzel knot headband hairstyle

Unfortunately we didn't make a video or step by step photo instructions for this hairstyle.  We did this style the other day for school and decided  it was just too cute not to share...so we are!  Just another fun idea using the pretzel / celtic knot we posted the other day. Click here: Pretzel Knot Video if you are not sure how to make the knots.  As a side note: If I did this again, I would definitely scrunch up those knots to center them more over the middle of the headband (hindsight.)

We used a total of 8 tiny elastics to create this style  (4 in the front and 4 behind the headband in the back.)  I have found it is easier to add the elastics in the front first, and then place the headband.  After I placed the headband where we wanted it, I added the knots, and lastly secured them with the elastics behind the headband.

This style could be made with or without a headband or ribbon underneath the knots.  I think the headband really makes the knots stand out and pop instead of just blending into the hair though.  My friend Becky over at "Babes In Hairland" introduced us to the idea of placing a headband using elastics quite awhile ago, and we utilize the idea quite often with different styles!

Enjoy!

Sidewinder Ribbon Braid Tutorial

A Unique French Braid Hairstyle With Ribbon

ribbon braid

This braid is created by using 3 strands of hair and a ribbon, scarf, or piece of fabric woven through the strands. After making this braid a few times, my personal opinion is that it is easier to manage than a regular french braid.  If you are having a hard time figuring out a french or dutch braid, this might be an easier alternative. This braid can be made the standard (tight) way, or as you can see in the picture below, can be stretched out for a softer or messy look. We like it both ways! This would be a fun hair style for cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, soccer, or other sporting events (as you could change up the color of ribbon to match your team.)

We held a "name this braid" contest on our facebook page a few weeks ago and "The Princess" ended up choosing the name "Sidewinder" from all of the entries. So, congrats and thank you to our facebook fan(s) who came up with the name Sidewinder for this unique ribbon french braid! There were lots of cute names suggested and The Princess had a very hard time choosing!

Sidewinder Ribbon Braid Video Tutorial:

This braided hairstyle can be made diagonally swept across the back of the head (as shown.) Or if you would prefer, you could make a single braid straight down the middle.  You could also create 2 braids forming pigtails, or 2 crossing braids.  We would love to see your creations on our facebook page if you try this braid!

Pretzel Knot Hairstyle

A Celtic Knot, or Pretzel Knot, made from hair!
celtic knot hairstyleThis hair barette (half up) style was inspired by a Youtube video showing how to create a celtic knot bracelet. We actually filmed this hairstyle back in January (for the Princess's Birthday.) I had kind of forgotten about it until I came across an awesome hairstyle on Google Images which used these knots to form a "pretzel knot net!" You can see that style on Pinterest by clicking here: Pinterest hairstyle.

There are many, many different styles that can be created using these hair knots. In the picture below, we made a quick double knot hairstyle. I think this would look so neat on extra long hair to create a long row of knots all the way down!
pretzel knot hairstyleAnd here, we tried a (very shortened) variation of the "knotted net" like the photo on Pinterest. One of these days (when we have some time) the Princess would love to have little pretzels all over her head. ;)
knot made from hairBefore you try this, you may want to know that this knot can be a challenge at first. But don't give up! With practice, it becomes quite easy and quick. It is definitely helpful to spray the hair with water or hair gel before you begin.

Here's the video tutorial:

This would be a cute hairstyle for teens, moms, girls.... all ages! You will need fairly long hair to create the knot. If you are working with shorter hair, I would suggest using strands from the top of the head that are close together (to fully utilize the length.) I have seen this knot called a Carrick Bend, Infinity Knot, Pretzel Knot, Nautical knot, or Celtic Knot. I think this looks most like a pretzel made from hair, so we are going with that. Enjoy!

Winding Lace Braid With Rosette Accent

The Winding Snake Braid Hairstyle, With A Braided Flower
braided hair flower hairstyleThis braided hairstyle is a variation we promised of the winding lace braid (or snake braid) we posted a few months ago. I think this would be a cute hairstyle for a flower girl, a wedding, or other special occasion (as the rosette made from hair adds an elegant touch.)
braided headband with flowerWe didn't show much of the "lace dutch braiding technique" in our video (that was used to create the braided headband in this style.) I recommend searching Youtube for a "dutch braid tutorial" if you don't know how to do this. We are planning on filming a how-to dutch braid video at some point, but it may be awhile before we get to it. ;)
hanging braidThe lace braid and hair flower combination video:

After we filmed this style (back in February) a braided flower hairstyle popped up in my subscription box on Youtube (from one of my favorite hairstyling channels) which can be found here: Lilith Moon I wish I would have seen Lilith's variation of the braided rosette before we filmed this style. I love the way she made her rose (by pulling on the strands from only one side of the braid.) I would recommend making the flower accent the same way she did hers if you try this hairdo, as her rose turned out so much neater! We have made several hair flowers since we filmed this style, and Lilith's technique is definitely the way to go!

Easter Hairstyles, The Basket Weave Braid

French Basket Weave Side Swept Braid Hairstyle
A Cute Easter Hairstyle!

This basket woven side ponytail hairstyle is inspired by a picture (shown below) that has been floating around on Pinterest, and also requested several times on our facebook page. Every pin I have seen of this style (and it is ALL over Pinterest) is either "uploaded by user" or is linked to "weheartit" or "tumblr." So, I'm not sure where the image actually originated from. If someone knows, please let me know in the comments so that I can give credit to the creator. ;)basket woven side braidWe used fairly large (chunky) sections in our variation for a quicker "how to" video. In the original hairstyle (as you can see) the basket weave is looser, with more strands, and more defined. For a more intricate and neat braid, smaller sections should be taken and then loosened at the end. We only added about half of the strands you would need to more accurately recreate the look. Also, the princesses hair is not quite long enough to pull off the original braid. But... hopefully our video will give you the basic idea of how to recreate this if you really want to!

easter hairstylesI'm thinking this would be a darling hairstyle for Easter Sunday as it reminds me of an Easter Basket. ;) We also found this cute springy headband shown below at the dollar store and love the look it adds to the style. The princess noticed that it looks like a "handle" to finish off the basket!
woven braid Btw, this basket weave braid is much easier to complete using damp hair, or with hair product. As you're weaving, flyaways will most likely become a problem if you are working on completely dry hair.

Here's the how-to video:

PS: An easier option to design a basket woven look for Easter (as shown below) would be to create multiple waterfall twist braids. We have shown this technique in another post here: Triple Waterfall Twist Braid Video

Double Braids With A Twist

I'm thinking the Princess may want wear this hairstyle when she gets old enough to go to the Prom. It's just so pretty! Sorry we didn't get any pictures of the finished style. The video is pretty short though, so it should load quite quickly. Enjoy!
