Double Braided Headband Hairstyle

Bohemian Braids and Beachy Waves

bohemian braids
This "Bohemian hairstyle" is very similar to a braided hairdo we did awhile back in picture form and have been wanting to do a video for you (it's one of our favorites.) The original style, which is slightly different, can be found here: Tween braids. We've had some requests for more "grown up styles." I'm thinking this braided headband could work for moms, teens, and girls... all ages! I'm loving the relaxed, beachy, and bohemian look. A perfect hairstyle for spring and summer 2012!

The princess was wanting "beachy waves" so, we made some waves by braiding her hair the night before. This style is versatile andcould definitely work with straight or curly hair as well. If you would rather put your hair up, you could finish this off with a braid or messy bun instead of leaving the hair down like we did.

I'm sure you are probably wondering about the darling beaded headband we used in this style, right? We found it at Lilla Rose.

Snow White And The Huntsman Braided Hairstyle

Snow White And The Huntsman Hairstyle
Inspired by, Kristen Stewart's Braided Hair

We first saw this braided style (in the picture above) on a poster featuring Kristen Stewart in battle armor holding a shield.

We took our family to see the movie "Chipwrecked" back in January and noticed a few movie posters in the lobby advertising the new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. The Princess and I both immediately fell in love with this hair style when we saw it and decided to try and recreate it.

We looked all over online and never could find a good view of the back of the style though. So, I am unsure if there is actually a braid in the back, or if it is a series of ponytails, or something else entirely. I guess we will see when the movie comes out in June!

snow white hairstyleThis is our take on the hairstyle from what we could see. And... we did change things up just a bit because the Princess was headed to school the day we filmed this. Although I love the messy strands hanging down in the original style, I can't really see that working for a school day.

So, I'm curious. After studying the hairstyle on Kristen Stewart.... What is your best guess as to what the back of this hairstyle actually looks like? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

St. Patty's Day Hairstyles, The Leprechaun Trap

Another Fun St. Patrick's Day Hairdo...
The Leprechaun Trap!

st. patricks day hairstyleI'm sorry we didn't get this hairstyle up sooner or take any step by step pictures. I know some of you have already done your St. Patrick's Day hairstyles a day early for school this year, but we wanted to share anyway. This was kind of a last minute thing today and is actually an idea brought on by our 5 yr old boy. He was excited to dress up our Little Pea for St. Patrick's Day. ;)

To create this style:

1. Make 4 braids along the front of her head and join them all together in the back with one elastic band.

2. Cut (3) 1-2 ft lengths of ribbon. Using a craft needle, sew the ribbons through 2 braids sitting next to each other in a criss cross pattern (the same way we have shown in other lacing hairstyles.) Repeat this process for the remaining braids.

3. Finish off the hairstyle by adding a bow or clover with the leftover ribbon.

There you have it... a lovely green web, perfect for catching a Leprechaun!

Spring Hairstyles, DIY Ribbon Flower And Clover

St. Patrick's Day Hairstyles - Ribbon Shamrock Hairstyle Ideas
st. patrick's day hairstyleHey guys! We wanted to share a quick way of adding a touch of green to your hair before St. Patty's Day. Nobody likes to be pinched... right?

Our video below shows how to create both a clover and a flower out of ribbon. This 4 leaf clover (or Shamrock) variation could be used to create a green shamrock headband (as shown above) or to add a shamrock to any hairstyle or braid. A french braid and fishtail braid are shown below as examples:

This is a very quick, easy (and cheap) way of making an accessory for any hairstyle. Best of all, there is no sewing or glue involved to create these flowers.... only ribbon!

Easy Ribbon Flower Headband

DIY ribbon flower video tutorial:

We have found that thin ribbon seems to work best for making these flowers. We buy our ribbon at Walmart or various craft stores (it's usually less than $1 per spool.) The length of ribbon you will need depends on the hairstyle and the size/number of petals on your flower (plan on between 2-4 feet.) And, I think this probably goes without saying..... but, you'll want to be extremely careful not to cut any hair when you are trimming the ribbon at the end. ;)

Criss Cross Braids, Toddler Hairstyles

Toddler And Baby Hairstyles
Simple And Quick Criss Cross Braids

cute toddler hairstylesOur Princess likes to call this hairstyle "criss cross applesauce."

This style could work with any hair type, texture, or length (short hair or long hair, curly or straight.) It's a good one for toddlers or babies who have very fine hair and is great for keeping bangs (or fringe) out of the eyes. We actually do this style quite often on our 9 year old Princess as well, so it doesn't have to be just for babies.

This is also a fantastic hair style for gymnastics, sports, and dance. You could make the criss cross braids and bring the rest of her hair back in a ponytail or bun if you wanted. Or, you could add more sections and braids all over her head to form a spiderweb effect.

We love the "lattice" look shown in the photo above with the extra ponytail added in the back. But if you prefer (or if you are working with super short hair that isn't going to make it into one more ponytail) you could leave that out to form one braided X as shown below.....

Hope you are enjoying our toddler hairstyles as much as we are enjoying creating them! "The Pea" has been such a patient little model for us. ;)

Chain Link Braid Headband Hairstyle

The Chain Link Braid Headband Hairstyle
Princess Hairstyles
chain link french braid This unique "chain link french braid" is sort of a spin off of one of our favorite hairstyle techniques: Chains. This braid is somewhat similar to a 2 strand knotted braid but we changed things up a bit with a new fun twist (as you'll see in our video.) In my opinion, the plaiting on this braid is actually easier to complete than a regular french braid, so if you are having trouble french braiding.... this might be one to try.

There are many variations and hairstyles that can be made with this braid. Instead of braiding a headband across her head, you could make a braid on each side of her head to form pigtails, or one braid down the middle, or a braid swept across the back of her head. Lots of possibilities!

Btw, the technique we used in this video (of leaving out the strands and adding them in later) can also be applied to a regular french braid or dutch braid. At some point I hope to post a video of this because it actually turns out really neat. But as of right now we are completely backed up on videos lol. I have a handful sitting in drafts that I need to get posted, so it may be a little while. ;)
