Bandables Twisty Braids Headband Review and Tutorial

Bandables twisty braids headband review and tutorial

Today we are testing the "bandables twisty braids headband" by Localoc.  We saw this at our local Walmart and thought it looked cute and fun to try.

We are always looking for easy hairstyles for school mornings and thought it would be perfect for those days when you need a 5 minute hairstyle. (Which is pretty much every school morning at our house!)

This would also be a great accessory for 2nd or 3rd day hair, to help disguise when it's looking slightly greasy. For those of you who are growing out your bangs, this would be fabulous as well!

Review and Tutorial Video: (Click here to watch this hairstyle video directly on YouTube.)

We liked that the little hair elastics on this headband held her hair back quite tightly without pulling or clamping her hair.  We've tried similar options in the past (with barrettes or clips attached to the headband) and it seems like you need exactly the right amount of hair to make those work. We've had trouble with the hair being too thick to clip the barrettes shut, or the hair being too thin and sliding right out.  So, the elastics are a great option that will accommodate all different hair textures and thickness.

There are many different hairstyles that can be created using this headband.  We have shown just a few basic ideas in this video:

A half up twist.

 A ponytail.

Easy 5 minute ponytail hairstyle for school with twisty braids headband.

If you play sports, I think this would be a nice option for keeping your hair out of your face.  You could add a ponytail, bun, or braid and be ready to go.

I think this would look really cute with curled, wavy, or crimped hair as well as straight.  This would also be perfect for short hair, as well as long. So fun!

We unfortunately were not able to find this available to purchase online yet... I think it is too new.  Here are some similar headbands on Amazon, but none with the elastics yet:

Prom Hair Tutorial, Dress and Shoes!

Gorgeous prom updo hairstyle tutorial and prom dress.

GRWM Prom! Come join us as she gets ready for her first Prom.

Hey guys! A few weeks ago my daughter went to the Prom at her High School. We filmed as she got her Prom hairstyle done, showing step by step how to recreate it in a tutorial for you. She chose to wear a pretty updo with braids and twists and a sparkly headband as an accessory.

Easy Prom Hairstyle Tutorial:

(Click here to watch the tutorial directly on YouTube.)

This updo is great for long hair, but would also work for shorter hair.  The buns could be easily adjusted for the length of hair you are working with.  We love this updo because it looks fancy and gorgeous but is fairly quick and easy, and requires no heat or pre curling of her hair (except for the optional pieces we left out framing her face.)

She went with a natural makeup look (which her aunt helped her with) a statement necklace, and minimal earrings.  As you can see in our video, her dress was a modest vintage style and very princess like!  We made a video a few weeks ago showing how to lace up this dress, which is a lovely corset back.

The dress was long enough that no one could see her shoes anyway, so she decided to go with the trend of Converse comfort!  Best decision ever for the dance and for fun.

Hope you enjoyed a peek at her first Jr Prom!

Wonder Woman hairstyle tutorial! DIY Braided Headpiece, Halloween Hair

Wonder Woman hairstyle tutorial! How to make a WW headband using braids for Halloween.

You'll love this Wonder Woman hairstyle featuring a DIY headpiece made from your own hair! A perfect Halloween hairstyle to go with your Wonder Woman costume.  And the best part? You will not need to purchase or make a wonder woman headband or crown to complete your look. Our tutorial today shows how to create a wonder woman headband using 4 cornrow braids and an inexpensive red or gold star sticker.  This warrior braid / super hero hairstyle is edgy, unique, and fierce. So fun!

As mentioned in our wonder woman hair tutorial (above) we would suggest adding large, voluminous curls to complete your wonder woman Halloween costume and hairstyle.  We have a tutorial showing how to curl hair with a curling wand that would work great. I would suggest using a large barrel for loose, bouncy curls.

Wonder woman DIY headpiece or headband tutorial.

Supplies needed to recreate this Wonder Woman inspired headpiece:
  • Several small, clear hair elastics.
  • Sectioning clips (alligator clips or claw clips) to help keep hair out of your way while braiding.
  • A gold or red star sticker.
  • Pomade, gel, hairspray, etc. to help control flyaways.
Over the years we have seen many awesome hairstyles using braids placed over the forehead on Instagram and Pinterest and had the idea to make a wonder woman headband using this concept a few months ago when we heard there would be a DC comics wonder woman movie coming out in 2017! A few inspiring hairstyle accounts we have seen these trendy "forehead braid" or braided tiara warrior princess hairstyles on recently: @ashley_cardon_hairstyles @trenzasnmba @vlechtidee @brianasbraids @ashton_hairstyles @tinkerbeanpoplettes_hairdesign

Back to school hairstyles, part 3

This is the last video in our "back to school hairstyle series" for this year featuring lots of simple, everyday hairstyle ideas. All of these videos show DIY hairstyles and quick styles that my teen daughter wears on a regular basis to school.  Nothing super creative or extravagant, but a fun collection hairstyle ideas for busy school mornings.

We didn't feel like any of these hairstyles really needed detailed step by step tutorials, but just a quick overview showing the partings and basic process of creating the styles.  We do have several videos on our channel showing how to lace french braid, fishtail braid, and dutch braid if you are wanting more detailed instructions for those braids.

These hairstyles would be great for middle school, high school, and college students, although any age could wear them.

Hope you guys like these back to school hairstyles.  See you next week!

Bow Tie Braid, Braided Hairstyle For Long Hair

Bow Tie Braid Hairstyle, Video Tutorial.

You'll love this adorable braided hairstyle with bows made from hair!  This hairstyle would be great for school, recitals, weddings, flower girls, church, communions, and other special occasions.

This hair tutorial and basic concept was inspired by a photo we saw on an awesome Instagram account by @mylittlebraids. We thought the lace braids and feathered strands were so delicate and beautiful, we had to give it a try!  The elastic bows sitting centered between the 2 lace French braids look a lot like little "bow ties" to us.  So cute!  If you like this hairstyle, you may want to check out our "fishtail bow braid" from a few years ago which is also a very cute style using hair to make bow ties!

Bow Tie Braid Hairstyle, Video Tutorial. (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)

We placed this bow tie braid in a headband type design, along the front / side of her head and ended the style in a hair wrapped side ponytail.  Of course, you could finish this hairstyle with a low side bun, or braid as well.  I'm thinking a pull through braid or elastic braid in the ponytail would be very cute.  Adding beads or jewels to the center of each bow braid would be so pretty as well.

Cute hairstyle, the bow tie braid.

The trick to getting this hairstyle to turn out well is taking tiny sections (micro braiding) as you are creating the initial braids.  If you want to use larger sections, you could always make 1 or 2 hair bows instead of 3 though!

Bow Braid Hairstyle Video Tutorial

A back view of the hair wrapped side ponytail......
hair wrapped ponytail with braids

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
  •  Several temporary hair ties or clips to help section and hold the hair while you are working.
  • Around 3 tiny elastics (actual number will depend on how many bows you decide to make.) The tiny elastics we used in the center of our bows are "Goody" brand (affiliate.)
  • 1 medium size hair tie or clear elastic for the top of the ponytail.
  • Pomade, gel, wax, etc. to help prevent flyaways.  If your hair is prone to frizz, I would suggest braiding your hair wet for this hairstyle to help keep things smooth.
  • 1 Clear elastic or bobby pin for securing the hair around the elastic if you are making the "hair wrapped ponytail."
We always get questions about where we got our styling head when we use her for hair tutorials.  We found it on Amazon, similar to this one. (Affiliate.)

Cookie Cutter Waterfall Braid Tutorial

Cute and unique half up hairstyle. The cookie cutter waterfall braid.

For our braiding tutorial this week, we have combined a "cookie cutter braid" and a "waterfall twist braid" to create a beautiful and unique half up hairstyle design which we are in love with!  The ever popular and fashionable "waterfall twist braid" is one of my daughter's favorite braids and she wears it often in a variety of hairstyles for school.  Adding the whimsical cookie cutter design on one side of the head adds such an unexpected and eye catching element to this ordinarily simple style.

Although this hairstyle looks fairly intricate, as shown in our video tutorial (below) it is not difficult to create.  This would be a cute hairstyle for school, church, special occasions, dances, recitals, proms, homecomings, weddings, etc.

Cookie cutter waterfall braid video tutorial. Braiding instructions.

Of course, if you wanted to add more than one cookie cutter braid inside your waterfall twist, you definitely could.  It would be fabulous to place several braids, evenly spaced across the top of her head like a headband!  Or you could add 2 braids to the waterfall twist, one on each side of her head.

Supplies needed to recreate this hairstyle:
  • 2 small, clear elastics
  • 1 temporary hair tie or clip to keep your braid from unraveling while you work.
  • Pomade, gel, or hair wax.
This braid will work best with long hair, or medium length hair. Straight, wavy, or curly hair should be fine (although you will most likely need to use some hair product and/or wet hair if you are working with curls to help the strands in the cookie cutter braid lay nicely.)

If you are wanting to wear this design for a more active event, I would suggest placing your remaining hair into a ponytail, bun, or other braid... instead of leaving it mostly down.
