French (Dutch) Loony Ribbon Braid, Cute Hairstyles
A Unique French Braid With Ribbon
The basic concept of this braid was inspired by our friends over at CuteGirlsHairstyles who posted a "ribbon accented loony braid" done in a low side ponytail. We thought the braid was so adorable and wondered if it could be done as a French braid or Dutch braid. After some trial and error, we were finally able to make it work. And, we love how it turned out. This is one of those fun styles that will attract lots of attention, comments, and compliments! This braid looks quite unique with the ribbon zig zagging down the middle, yes? This braid reminds me so much of a hairstyle Rapunzel would wear!
I would say that at first glance this braid looks like a Dutch braid (meaning the outside strands would be coming in under the middle strand) but surprisingly, it is actually a French braid. I'm thinking this is the reason so many of you have been asking for a tutorial. This braid is kind of deceiving to try and figure out how it was done just by looking at it. We actually tried using a Dutch braid first, and it didn't turn out quite right. Also, as you will see in our video tutorial below, stretching out the strands is probably the most difficult part of this braid (since you will need to be careful where you are grabbing.) ;)
Supplies needed:
- 1 small elastic
- 4-7 ft long length of ribbon (or you could use 2 shorter strands and tie them together)
- comb or brush

As another option, you could substitute the ribbon for 2 microbraids (as shown below.)

Waterfall Twist Braid Headband And French Braid Hairstyle
A Casual Braided Hairstyle
What do you get when you cross a waterfall twist headband and a diagonal French braid? A super cute hairstyle!
We wanted something casual and cute today. I love a standard french braid, but this subtle waterfall twist adds so much to this style, and it really doesn't take that much extra time. I think the braided headband gives this hairstyle sort of a sporty and fun look.
We made our french braid slightly loose and angled it diagonally across the back of her head (to end in a side braid.) Of course if you would rather, you could place your braid right in the middle. A dutch braid or french fishtail braid could also be done instead of a french braid if you prefer. It's up to you!
I love how her natural highlights are accentuated in the twists of the headband as well as the strands coming into the french braid on this hairdo. So pretty!
Supplies needed:
- One small elastic to tie off the braid
- Comb or brush
- Clip to hold the hair while you are braiding (optional)

Picture Day Hairstyles
French Fishtail Braid Bangs & Curls
"The Princess" has school pictures scheduled soon, so I thought some of you probably have them coming up as well. Today we just wanted to show how the Princess plans on wearing her hair for picture day (and maybe give you some picture day hairstyle ideas.)
We usually try to leave her hair mostly down for pictures (just a personal preference.) She likes to look back on her photos and remember how long (or short) her hair was at the time. Also, you could spend a lot of time making the back of her head look cute, but... the back of her head is most likely not going to show up in the photo! So, I think it makes more sense to focus on the font view.
I realize that this hairstyle really isn't anything too exciting. But, I have found that I'm happier with our pictures years down the road when I stick with simple, classic styles (both with our clothing and with our hair.)
Picture Day Hairstyle Video Tutorial:
(How to french fishtail bangs (or fringe) and how to curl hair.)
Here's the front view, and what her hair will look like in her 5th grade pics!
A couple of options: You could pull all of your hair over to one side for the picture, or leave a little showing on each side. Whatever you prefer. ;)
Of course, you could also do a regular French braid, Dutch braid, or French twist (instead of a French fishtail) in the bangs area for a similar look.
*Let us know in the comments how you plan to wear your hair for school pictures this year!
Woven Knot - Half Up Hairstyle
A formal half up half down hair style for Prom or Homecoming!
We are both in love with this elegant knotted half updo and hope you like it too. The best part? This hair design is surprisingly very easy to do (as you will see in our video tutorial below.) This is one of those hairstyles that was sort of created on accident one day, as I was just playing around with the princess's hair..... and turned out to be one of our new favorites. It's definitely on our top 10 hairstyles of all time list!

I posted a "sneak peek" of this style the other day on our Facebook page and several people thought this was maybe a celtic knot (or pretzel knot.) We do have a tutorial showing how to do that (click here: Pretzel Knot Hairstyle if you are interested in learning.) But, this "woven knot" is actually put together quite differently, even though it looks very similar (with its infinity or figure 8 shape.) This is also much easier to make than the pretzel knot (in my opinion) and doesn't require much length either. So, this should work with long hair, as well as medium length, and maybe even shoulder length hair!
I'm thinking this would be a gorgeous hairstyle for Homecoming, Prom, a wedding, flower girl, bride, church, or other special or formal occasion.
We added some curls to the ends of her hair using a Nume brand curling wand for some extra texture, but this style would also be cute with straight or wavy hair.
Supplies Needed:
- 1 small elastic
- Several bobby pins
- Hairspray or Gel (optional)
- Curing iron or curling wand (optional)
