Tinker Bell Hair Tutorial
This Tinkerbell hair tutorial is inspired by the hairstyle worn on Disney's fairy Tinker Bell in the movie Peter Pan! A cute messy bun or "top knot" wrapped with ribbon and side swept bangs. Of course, my daughter doesn't have bangs (as I'm sure many of you don't as well) so we made some "fake bangs" using her own hair!

We have always loved Disney hairstyles and Halloween hairstyles and could not wait to film this hair tutorial! We have loved watching Disney movies and think Tinker Bell would be such a fun character to dress up as for Halloween, or for your next trip to Disneyland, Disneyworld, or Disney birthday party. This hairstyle would look great with a Tinker Bell fairy costume!
The method we used for creating the "faux fringe" or bangs could be used for every day hairstyles as well (this doesn't have to be just for Tinkerbell!) It might be fun to change up your look and have bangs for the day. I have seen this method used with a thick headband placed in front of the bun, which ends up making the bangs look really authentic and more natural!

This week we wanted to share 6 of our favorite Disney Princess Hair tutorials (including Elsa, Anna, Belle, Cinderella, and Jasmine) all together in one compilation video! We thought these would be great Halloween hairstyles to go with your princess costumes and dresses, or for your next trip to Disneyland, Disney world, a princess birthday party, or dress up event. All of these princess hairstyles are fairly easy and "doable." We have tried to simplify and modify the styles to work with "real hair" as most of us weren't born with long, thick, flowing, cartoon princess locks!

Belle Hairstyle Tutorial, Beauty And The Beast Inspired
We are so excited for the new live action Beauty and the Beast Disney movie coming out on March 17, 2017. And we could not wait to film this hair tutorial! We have loved watching Emma Watson for years and think she will make the perfect Belle. (Our favorite Disney Princess!)
Belle Hair Tutorial, Elegant Half Up Bun Hairstyle: (Click here to watch the video directly on YouTube.)
Before filming this tutorial, we tried searching the internet for a clear picture of this hairstyle from an actual movie still shot, but were unsuccessful. (We only found blurry pics from the side or front and a very quick flash of the style in the official trailer.) So, this is our perceived rendition and not an exact replica. Based off of the animated movie and books, seeing Belle at Disneyland, etc... we know her classic style is a half up with curls, with some type of bun in the back, possibly featuring a yellow ribbon or gold hair accessory of some sort. Of course, although our minor details may not be spot on with the new movie, this hairstyle will definitely pass for Belle! We can't wait to see the actual authentic details when we go watch this in the theater next month!
This hairstyle is fairly easy to make (for a Disney Princess hairstyle) and would be great to go with a Princess Belle Halloween costume, a day at Disneyland or Disney world, a Disney Princess party, watching the Beauty and the Beast movie premiere, etc.
Supplies needed to recreate this glamorous hairstyle:
- 3 small or medium hair elastics
- Several bobby pins
- Finishing hair spray
- To create the voluminous bun for this style, we used our "Hollywood Half Up" accessory made by Scunci. When we saw this tool at Walmart, we thought it would be perfect for helping to create Belle's hairstyle and it really was simple to use. We have an older Belle hair tutorial showing another idea for making the bun from several years ago if you want to check that out. This Bell hairstyle could also be created by following the first few steps shown in our video, and then making a regular twisted, braided, or messy bun with the half ponytail and tying a yellow ribbon around it, or adding a gold clip or barrette (instead of using a bun maker like we did.)
- The ringlet curls cascading underneath the bun were created using our 3/4 inch curling iron, starting at the the root.
- A topsy tail (affiliate) is optional for creating this hairstyle, but does make it easier and can be used for many other styles as well. These can be found online and in some stores that sell hair accessories.

Halloween Hairstyles, Queen Elinor Hair
We are continuing on with our "Halloween Hairstyles series" this week with a fun Queen Elinor inspired ribbon wrapped ponytail (as seen in the Disney movie "Brave" on Merida's mother.)
We noticed Queen Elinor actually wears 2 variations of this hairstyle in the movie; The first, as a single ponytail (which we chose for our tutorial today.) And the other is basically the same concept, only doubled up in 2 ribbon ponytails (or pigtails) laying side by side. I think both styles are gorgeous and perfect to go with a variety of medieval, princess, queen or royal costumes.
We are loving the effortless look of this ponytail and would actually consider wearing it on regular occasions (such as school) and not just for dressing up.
Depending on the thickness of your hair, you may want to tease it slightly to add more volume... or you can choose to skip that step and leave it "as is." We love the "bubbled" look of the ponytail, which was made by stretching the hair between the ribbon (shown in our video tutorial below.) But, this step can also be skipped if you prefer your ponytail to lay more straight and sleek.

Supplies needed to recreate this style:
- 1 ponytail holder or large elastic.
- 1 medium, clear elastic or small ponytail holder.
- We chose some gold ribbon for wrapping around our ponytail. You can use whatever you have on hand (leather, yarn, rope, ribbon, etc.)
- We also added a gold braided headband accessory to accent the style. Queen Elinor of course was wearing a gold crown if you really want your costume to be authentic. ;)
- An Elinor costume to go with your hairstyle (optional of course.) We found the dress shown in our photos at a local store in the Halloween section.... and it wasn't actually meant to be a Queen Elinor costume.
Disney's Descendents Hairstyle Tutorial - Evie
Our hair tutorial this week (and our first Halloween Hairstyle of the season) is inspired by a fun style we saw on Disney's new show "Descendants" which was worn by "Evie" ie Sofia Carson.
In the original style, Evie is wearing a blue/purple woven or braided headpiece (which sort of resembles a crown or tiara) sitting atop her classic dark blue hair. We wanted to create a DIY of something similar, as well as something simple and inexpensive for anyone who is planning on dressing up as Evie for Halloween... or for anyone else just because it's a cute style!

P.S. If you are wanting to make some curls or waves to go with your headpiece (like Evie is wearing) feel free to watch our curling wand tutorial.
As shown in our video tutorial (above) we braided our headpiece right into "the Princess's" hair. This is not actually necessary. If your hair is too short, or if you would rather make the headpiece on its own and bobby pin it into place, you definitely can. We just thought it would be a fun way to keep the headpiece in place without having to use bobby pins or clips and worry about it falling out while trick-or-treating!
You may have noticed in our photos and video that we are showing 2 different ways to finish this style. Depending on your personal preference, you can either leave the braids sitting on top of the hair (as shown above) or you can drape some hair over the back/center of the headpiece to hide the elastic and give the hairstyle more of an authentic look to the original style (shown below.)
Supplies needed to recreate this look:
- Ribbon: We found the 2 rolls of ribbon shown in our tutorial at our local craft store in the discount bin for 50 cents each. You can really use any ribbon you want, but I would suggest finding some that is around 1/2 inch thick to easily create the "point" in the front of the headpiece. We used around 3 feet of each roll.
- If you have beads, you could thread the beads onto the ribbon and randomly add them throughout the braid for added bling and sparkle.
- If you really want to make this hairstyle authentic, you could actually dye or spray your hair dark blue! Or you could look for a blue wig, which would be less messy. ;)
- Curling iron/wand or other curling method if you are wanting curls.
- 1 medium/clear elastic.
- Finishing hair spray (optional)
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
Disney's Cinderella Ball Hairstyle Tutorial 2015
This tutorial is inspired by the hairstyle Lily James aka Cinderella wore to the ball in the 2015 Disney Cinderella movie.
Ever since the new Cinderella movie was announced, we have had many requests for a Cinderella hairstyle tutorial. We're a little slow on getting around to this, but we finally saw the show in theatres this past weekend. We loved it, by the way! We also noticed the many cute braided hairstyles throughout. But, we decided to film a tutorial for the ball hairstyle, as it was the most requested.
As a bonus, this simple and elegant style is quite easy and should work with most hair lengths and textures.

You might notice in our pictures that "the Princess's" hair didn't turn out quite as curly as Cinderella's did. We were a little disappointed in our curls as we ended up having to take the curlers out after just a couple of hours, and they didn't hold as well as they usually do. We wanted the curls to look effortless and natural, but not quite as flat and blah as they turned out! If I were to try this style again, I would leave our curlers in overnight, or go for a curling wand or curling iron. ;)
The braided headband in this style can be made in several different ways, depending on your hair length and thickness. If your hair is fine, I would recommend making a braid on each side and doubling them up to make the headband appear to be thicker and more textured. And of course, if your hair is shorter, you can make a braid on each side and join the ends at the top, instead of the braids having to reach all the way across her head. We chose a rope braid because the headband on Cinderella appears to be a twist of some sort, but of course, you can do any type of braid you want. If I had to guess, I would say the original hairstyle was probably created by using a hair piece for the headband, as well as some added extensions for the glamorous looking curls. You can purchase a synthetic braided headband if you want, which would make your hair appear to be thicker and the braid more voluminous.
If you are looking for some magical sparkle just like Cinderella, some glitter could also be added as the finishing touch!

- Naturally curly hair ;) or a curling wand, curling iron, or other curling method. We have a tutorial for our "sponge rag rollers" if you want to try that.

Snowflake Ponytail, Winter Hairstyles
A "Frozen Hairstyle"... literally!
We decided on a fun and festive snowflake hairstyle for our tutorial this week (since the holidays and the winter season are upon us!) This design is kind of a spinoff of one of our favorite updos that we posted on our site way back in 2009, the fancy Princess Bun. With a few slight changes and some added ribbon, this Princessy bun transforms into a lovely snowflake hairstyle!
This unique design would be a cute hairstyle for Christmas, New Years, holiday parties, winter weddings, sledding, skiing, and... all winter long. I could also picture this as a fun and different hairstyle to go with an Elsa or Anna (from Disney's Frozen) costume or dress!
If you are wanting to wear this hairstyle for dance, figure skating, gymnastics, etc... you could take the hair in the ponytail and create a sock bun (or any other type of bun) to keep it out of your way.
Also, for a more elegant look, you could curl the hair in the ponytail, or create a tousled updo with some curls in the center of the snowflake.
Supplies Needed:
- Several small, white elastics
(We used 10, but it is going to depend on how many ponytails you add to start with.) - 2 medium, white elastics.
- Claw clips, to keep things from unraveling while you work.
- White ribbon, cut into 2 - 2 1/2 ft lengths. (We used 5 pieces, but again, it is going to depend on how many ponytails you start out with.)
- Scissors, nail clippers, or a seam ripper to easily remove the elastics when you are done (optional.)
Just a heads up: Most of the styles we post on this blog are less time consuming than they look and rarely take over 10 minutes.... not the case with this one. ;) I would give yourself around 20-30 minutes to complete this style. Pull out a movie, snacks, game, or book... you are going to need it!
P.S. If you are looking for less of a winter look and more of a spring/summer hairstyle, this same technique could be used to make a beautiful hair flower! Just change the white ribbon and elastics out for pink, yellow, or purple. You will then create flower petals instead of ice crystals!

Hey guys! As part of our "Halloween hairstyles series" this month, we wanted to add another style to our Disney Princess Hairstyles collection. We decided on a beautiful Cinderella inspired updo. Anyone planning on dressing up as Cinderella for Halloween this year?
Also, this hairstyle doesn't have to be just for Halloween. I think this would make a lovely and elegant style for a flower girl, bride, Prom, Homecoming, church, etc.
I'm assuming pretty much everyone has watched Cinderella at some point, right? You might remember she was wearing a style similar to this at the ball (while wearing the gorgeous blue ball gown.) Of course, this is not an exact replica of Cinderella's hairstyle (as is the case with most cartoon inspired hair) but rather our interpretation of a Cinderella bun.
There are many different ways you could go about creating this style and we actually tried a few different techniques before we settled on this one. We mostly just wanted to keep this tutorial easy, simple, and quick for everyone. ;) The technique we used in our video tutorial below should work with long hair, medium hair, and maybe even hair on the shorter side. If you are working with extremely thick hair, you may want to split the ponytail up into a few different sections before you roll her hair up, instead of creating one big roll like we did.
In hindsight, if I were to create this style again, I would place the ponytail up a little higher on her head for a more authentic look... keep that in mind if you give this one a try. Also, Cinderella has bangs, and "our princess" does not. So, if you have bangs, all the better for this style! You can style them in front of the headband just like Cinderella.
