Basket Weave Braid Woven Bun Hairstyle

The "Woven Bun"
A Basket Weaving Braided Updo
basket woven bun

This "woven bun" updo hairstyle is basically a combination of our basket weave half ponytail hairstyle and our never ending braid hairstyle. This intricate and unique braided bun updo would be a great hair style for a special occasion if you are needing something fancy schmancy.  I'm thinking: Wedding, ballet, figure skating, Prom, Homecoming, flower girl, Easter Sunday, etc.

To complete this hairstyle, you will need:
  • 2 small elastics
  • Several bobby pins
  • Fairly long hair
  • 10-15 minutes
  • A design weaver, topsy tail, craft needle, or your fingers! (We found our design weaver online.)

If you prefer more of a messy look, you could definitely stretch the strands in the braid before you wrap the hair into a bun.  I was thinking it would be a very cute hairstyle if you made a braided flower out of the bun at the end!

This updo is designed as a long hairstyle, or a hairstyle for long hair.  But, if your hair is on the shorter side, you could probably still create most of the style.  I would recommend ending the braid at the base of the ponytail and creating a bun from there.  (This will make more sense after you watch our video tutorial below.)

This last hairstyle photo was taken at the end of the day.  I was quite surprised at how well this one held up, so I wanted to share!  As long as the bun is secured tightly, you could probably use this as a hairstyle for a dance competition or performance.  Maybe even a gymnastics hairstyle!  I can picture the little girls on the show Dance Moms wearing this hairstyle.  How cute would that be!?

This is one of our favorite hairdos lately as it looks so intricate but really isn't that hard or time consuming to complete.

If you enjoyed this style, feel free to share on facebook and pin to Pinterest.  ;)

  13. I was browsing on Pinerest and came across this hairstyle. I absolutely love it so much I had to try it. My daughters hair is more of a kinky curly texture. So, I really wanted to leave her texture in there and give the hairstyle you created some justice as well. I hope you like it. Thank you for sharing your creativity!
