Heads Up.... And Some Bad News :(

First of all, I still haven't heard from the winner of our Strawllers Contest. If you entered that one, please go check here to see if it is you!

In other business, I'm so sad. My old computer "died" and I had a whole bunch of hairstyles and videos saved that may not be recoverable. (Not to mention some random pictures of my kids.) I've got a computer guy looking at it, but he's saying it doesn't look good. The worst part is, these were LONG hairstyles. Since we've cut the princess's hair, I can't recreate them even if I wanted to.

Luckily I do have several (as in quite a few) hairdo's saved on my sd cards that hadn't been transferred over to the computer yet. But geesh, it's depressing to lose all the others. I feel worse about losing the pictures than I do about the computer. I guess it's a good lesson for everyone else. Don't have your stuff saved in just one location!

That's my depressing rant for the day! Thanks for listening. ;)

Whould you like to comment?

  1. Oh you poor thing! I know that feeling oh too well. It felt like someone set fire to my photo album. We use picasa to do our new photo search and upload. Speaking of which, I need to do the same!

I hope your computer guy recovers those cherished photos of your babies!

  3. OH my gosh that's terrible. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Our computer crashed last year and they said we'd lost everything and couldn't get it back. After the hard drive sat in a drawer for a couple months my dad tied one last time for us and was able to get our pictures by hooking it up to his laptop so maybe you'll get lucky also!!!

  4. I have had my old computer crash several times and then I came across Carbonite.com and downloaded it..they then saved all of my important data for me! It isn't that expensive either! I sent you a link to sign up if you are interested. It truly saved me! I have almost 200,000 files saved by them right now! So if my computer crashes I can just go back online to carbonite.com and sign in and re-install all of my lost data! I have had to use it too..like a week after I signed up and it truly is a lifesaver! Good luck finding all of your lost files! I know it killed me to loose all of the pictures of my kids too!

  5. that is the worst. So sorry that had to happen. Maybe the computer guy will recover them. Sometimes they give you the worst news just to cover their butt. Its easier to come back and say the he was able to save them then it would be to come back and say he couldn't after he told you he might be able to. My hubby is a computer guy ;).

  6. How frustrating! I hope your tech person is able to retrieve the data!

  7. Oh No!!! I had a computer that fried itself. I thought I lost everything, but my amazing computer guy (aka my BFF's hubby) was able to get all my pictures back for me. I was literally in tears when my computer hit the dust. I didn't care one bit about the computer...but all those pictures I was devestated. I learned my lesson quick and got on external hard drive that I save everything on.

  9. If the hard drive is dead, don't let the tech dispose of it. I've often done data recoveries by putting a toasted hard drive in the freezer for 5-15 minutes, connecting it to a working machine with a cable, and copying what I can from it. You can do this as many times as the drive will allow (I can usually milk between 3 and 10 freezer runs from a drive). I've managed to copy 20GB of music off my last HDD in this way, so there's still hope!

  10. Oh no! Poor you!! Maybe they can recover part of it? DOS can do wonders sometimes, provided you know the commands... I hope they can fix it!!

  11. So sorry about your computer. I've had the same thing happen here. I now back up all of my pics onto my Photobucket account rather than on my computer.

For some of your regular do's just do what I do, "borrow" a kid for the afternoon and get em redone! (at least for your favorite ones anyway!)

Good luck, hopefully you'll get them all back!

  15. Every month I go to walmart.com and store all my photos every month that way I have them in a separate location in addition to my computer and when I want the printed I just order them from walmart.com and it only cost me 10 cents a copy. It makes me feel safe to know that my pictures are there when I need them.

  16. I lost all the pictures I took of the first four months of my daughter's life due to a computer crash. Later I heard of some sort of recovery software we might have tried, but hubby had already reformatted the hard drive. I was VERY upset over this at the time, but now I have discovered that life goes on just fine without all the pictures. And there are tens of thousands of pictures yet to be taken. Not to mention all the ones I have taken in the past and not organized.

  17. It makes me feel a little better to know I'm not the only one this has happened to! Although I am sorry!! Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'm looking in to a few options that have been suggested.

  19. Sorry to hear about your computer. That really bites. After Jenn's crashed I went and bought one of those back-up exterior drives - I just hope it works if some day my computer does die. Hope it's not giving me false hope! Good luck recovering your stuff.
